Chronic viral infection drives three gene expression states in cardiomyocytes
Several viruses can infect the human heart and persist long term, leading to heart failure. This project identifies undiagnosed viral heart infections using large RNA-seq datasets collected from patient hearts. Virus-associated gene signatures from the patient hearts are then tested using a cell culture model of chronic viral infection. The overall goal is to provide insight into chronic viral heart infection, which may lead to interventions that halt the progression to heart failure.
