Luisa Iruela-Arispe, PhD, Presents Annual Berne Lecture

Dr. Arispe prepares to speak to the CVRC.

The CVRC held its annual Robert M. Berne Lecture on November 7th, presented by Luisa Iruela-Arispe, PhD. Dr. Arispe is the Stephen Walter Ranson Professor and Chair of the Department of Cell and Developmental Biology at Northwestern University’s Feinberg School of Medicine. She became the Lecture’s 33rd speaker, joining a highly distinguished cadre of scientists that include five Nobel laureates. Dr. Arispe is herself a highly decorated researcher, with honors including the Judah Folkman Award and UCLA’s Distinguished Teaching and Gold Shield Awards. The lecture is held in honor of Robert M. Berne, MD, who was instrumental in establishing the CVRC. Dr. Arispe spoke on her team’s research, which studies growth the growth and injury repair process of blood vessels. She showed how the behavior of arterial cells differs at different points in the healing process as well as elucidating the growth kinetics of the aorta in mice. Dr. Arispe received a Jefferson Cup and a plaque in recognition of her work. A reception was held after the lecture.
