The Space Between: How Lymphatic Endothelial Junction Proteins Control Development

Lymphatic vessels form specialized structures to enable the absorption and transport of interstitial fluid. Two of these structures are discontinuous button-like junctions and bicuspid valves. Our lab has identified junction proteins as signaling regulators that control the development of these two structures. Many gene mutations occur that disrupt the development of these structures and lead to lymphedema or lymphatic malformations.
