The CVRC’s Antonio Abbate, MD, PhD, recently appeared in a public service video alongside NHL pro Henrik Lundqvist. They discussed Lundqvist’s experiences with a heart condition, recurrent pericarditis, which is characterized by swelling in the sac-like tissue surrounding the heart. It causes recurring chest and back pain, shortness of breath, and palpitations. Dr. Abbate is a leading cardiology researcher who has led over 13 clinical trials, with 6 more currently active. He appears on over 470 scientific publications and was named one of the top cardiologists in the United States by Forbes Magazine.
Appearing in the video as an expert on recurrent pericarditis, Dr. Abbate spoke about the disease and the current standards of care. “Today, we have targeted treatments we didn’t have in the past,” he explained. “By understanding the disease, you can work together [with your doctor] on a plan to treat recurring pericarditis.” You can watch the full video below.
