Our mission is to understand the role of signaling microdomains in mediating cellular communication within the vasculature, focusing on possible disregulation of these domains in disease states.

Angela BestAngela Best
akb9c@virginia.edu
Lab Manager

My main interest in the lab is to keep it running smoothly and keeping the everything up to date through current university regulations and training. I train everyone in cell culture techniques and collaborate with the post-docs to help the flow of experiments with their time constraints.

Scott JohnstoneScott Johnstone, PhD
srj6n@virginia.edu
Instructor of Research

I am investigating the role of Cx43 in the regulation of smooth muscle cells proliferation in large conduit arteries, as well as therapeutic modalities that may be able to regulate this pathway. I also have an ongoing interest in TNFa-mediated regulation of Panx1 in acute cytokine release.

Miranda GoodMiranda Good, PhD
meg7sj@virginia.edu
Post-doctoral Researcher

I seek to understand the regulation of vascular function in regards to ischemic injury. My current focus is on the role of pannexin1 in cerebral myogenic tone and venous inflammation, which I believe work in tandem towards the etiology of ischemic stroke.

Isola BrownIsola Brown, PhD
ib3a@virginia.edu
Post-doctoral Researcher

My current focus is on the role of ZIKA virus in the microcirculation, including the acute and long-term cardiovascular effects of flavivirus.

Visiting Graduate Student

My work has been focussed on the role of endothelial Panx1 in the inflammatory response using multiple molecular and cell biological techniques.

Abigail AntoineAbigail Antoine
aga9gw@virginia.edu
Graduate Student

I am interested in the potential role of Pannexin 3 in the vasculature using a combination of cell biology, microscopy and physiology.

Claire RuddimanClaire Ruddiman
car9rp@virginia.edu
Graduate Student

My project focusses on the cellular and molecular organization of the myoendothelial junctions protruding from endothelial cells.

Edgar MacalEdgar Macal
ehm8jn@virginia.edu
Lab Technician

I am helping to coordinate all mouse work in the lab, as well as help out as needed for a variety of different experimental techniques.

Aditi IslamAditi Islam
ai8nw@virginia.edu
Undergraduate Researcher

I am studying the role of alpha hemoglobin in small arterials.

Alekhya PeruriAlekhya Peruri
ap6yr@virginia.edu
Undergraduate Researcher

I am performing immunofluorescence on the microvasculature to examine the spatial localization of ZIKA virus.
